During the 46th Annual Conference of the World Steel Association, in New Delhi (India), Gerdau was granted
the 2012 Safety and Health Excellence Recognition, which evaluates successful programs of occupational
health and safety. The Company was awarded because of the Safety Multipliers project, which has recorded
significant positive results since its implementation in 2004.
The program consists in assigning operators to act as safety multipliers within each operational team. The
safety multiplier's role is to monitor, provide support to team members, and encourage individual
responsibility for the group's safety. As a result of the program, employees are able to practice important
safety solutions to create a 100% accident-free environment.
Gerdau is a leading producer of long steel in the Americas and one of the largest suppliers of special steel in the world. With over 45,000 employees, it has industrial operations in 14 countries - in the Americas, Europe and Asia - which together represent an installed capacity of over 25 million metric tons of steel per year. It is the largest recycler in Latin America and around the world it transforms, each year, millions of metric tons of scrap into steel, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in the regions where it operates. With more than 140,000 shareholders, the Company is listed on the stock exchanges of São Paulo, New York and Madrid.
