Rock Concert Presented by Gerdau Raises more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society

Press release

A benefit rock concert held at the Michigan Theatre Saturday night raised more than $1,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The concert, organized by employees of Gerdau’s Jackson, Mich. office and mill, featured Steve Tucker and Blackstone Masquerade.
Even though Relay for Life took place at Cascades Falls Park earlier this month, the American Cancer Society collects donations for 2012’s event until the end of August. This is Gerdau’s fifth year participating in Jackson’s Relay for Life event and so far the company has raised more than $10,000 for the American Cancer Society this year.
“Gerdau is committed to improving the lives of people in all the communities in which we operate,” said Jack Finlayson, president of Gerdau’s North American special steel division. “I’m proud of our employees who continuously volunteer their time and money to support causes that help members of our community.”
The company’s Relay for Life team also organized a benefit volleyball tournament in June and plans to have a second tournament at Hudson’s Classic Grill on Saturday, August 25. Registration will be open to co-ed teams of four and the cost to play will be $100.00 per team, which will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

About American Cancer Society / Relay for Life
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s largest fundraising event where community members gather to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease that takes too many. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events that last up to 24 hours. To learn more about Relay for Life or to start or join a team, contact Catina Lowe at (517) 332-3300 or visit
