Habitat Hillsborough Partners with Gerdau to Build Lewis Family Home

House Start this Saturday at 9am Marks Second Gerdau Build in Providence Pointe

Stability is a precious commodity to Tamesha Lewis, a single mom of three beautiful daughters. Having the stability of a home in which to grow up was something she did not have, despite her parents’ best efforts. It is a concept that Tamesha wishes to become a reality for her daughters and herself. Thanks to Gerdau, the home sponsor, that concept will take shape at the Wall Raising Ceremony for the Lewis Family Home this Saturday, February 4. The ceremony begins at 9am at 8433 Radio Lane, Tampa, FL 33619.

Tamesha first heard about the Habitat program
through a friend whose sister built a home for the 2010 Suzie Q Blitz Build. “Owning a home will mean a lot to me and my girls,” she said. “I will also be setting stability as an example for them. When I became pregnant, that’s the one thing I said I would do.” She has worked hard to bring this dream to reality, and she and her daughters look forward to the future.

“Gerdau and Habitat Hillsborough have formed a great relationship over the last several years. We have built four homes in the Tampa Bay area, and several of our company’s locations have become involved with Habitat for Humanity throughout the United States,” said Jim Kerkvliet, vice president of marketing and sales. “Their mission to help solve the affordable housing problems in our country fits well with our goal to help generate sustainable community development. It is an honor to help improve the quality of life for people in our community and our employees really enjoy being a part of the process.”

Habitat and the Lewis family wish to thank Gerdau for their home sponsorship. “We are excited about the continued partnership with Gerdau and their dedication to increasing affordable housing in Hillsborough County,” said Brian Hastings, Habitat’s Executive Director. Tamesha thanks the volunteers who will give their time to help her build her family’s dream. “Without the sponsors and volunteers, there would be no Habitat.”

Construction on the Lewis Family Home will last approximately eight weeks. Volunteers may register to volunteer through the Habitat Hillsborough website, www.HabitatHillsborough.com.
