The Charqueadas mill, Gerdau's special steel producer located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, is a global benchmark in the segment of special steels for engineering steel, stainless steels, and tool steels. Celebrating 40 years of existence, it has the most advanced technology for the manufacturing of special steels along with modern production processes focused on meeting the needs of the automotive industry. Since 1992, which is the year the Company took control of the mill, it has invested more than US$ 350 million to upgrade technology, worker safety, and environmental protection. The mill invests in the quality of its production, the mill also invests in the qualification of its employees and
applies strict environmental practices. This effort is recognized by certifications and awards received over the
years such as ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001, the standard PED, and the Rio Grande do Sul Award for Quality and Productivity (PGQP). The mill has also received the National Quality Award, recognized internationally.
