Gerdau mill in Midlothian doantes $2,000 to J.A. Vitovsky Elementary

Press release

Employees at the Gerdau steel mill in Midlothian, Texas, donated $2,000 to the fifth grade class of J.A. Vitovsky Elementary on Feb. 22. The donation is being used to help fund the fifth grade’s field trip to Austin, Texas, the state Capitol, on May 6.
“Supporting education and the children in our community is a priority for our company,” said Glen Carlisle, vice president and general manager at the Gerdau mill in Midlothian. “The kids have a great time and learn a lot on this trip, which is a great reward for them and us.”
This gift marks the third year the Gerdau mill in Midlothian has supported the school’s annual field trip. The donation covers the student’s transportation fees to Austin, where they will get the opportunity to tour the Capitol building, have lunch in the Senate Chamber and visit the National Cemetery.
In addition to their support for the fifth grade field trip, Gerdau employees also participate in an afterschool tutoring program for children at the school. The elementary school provides a number of services for individual students with unique needs such as their Title I reading and math programs.
Gerdau’s partnership with J.A. Vitovsky Elementary demonstrates the company’s commitment to education and respect for the community, two of the five pillars of their social responsibility program. The other pillars of the program include health and wellness, history and culture, and affordable housing.
