Gerdau mill in Jacksonville honors student with $10,000 scholarship

Tiffany Braddy, a graduate of Baker County High School in Glen St. Mary, Fla., was selected to receive a prestigious scholarship offered by Gerdau, one of the largest suppliers of long steel in the world. She is one of only 15 students to receive the scholarship, which is open to the children of Gerdau employees in North America.
“Our scholarship program allows us to invest in the future of these students,” said Carlos Zanoelo, vice president and general manager of the Gerdau mill in Jacksonville. “We are proud Tiffany has been honored and rewarded for her success.”
Tiffany’s father, Stephen Braddy, works as a ladle crane operator at the Jacksonville mill. His daughter was honored for her achievement at a scholarship ceremony at the mill on Aug. 20, where she was presented her with the award. 
Tiffany will attend the Florida Gateway College in Lake City, Fla., to obtain her associated degree. She then plans to transfer to the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla. for a bachelor’s degree. Tiffany aspires to attend medical school after she has received her bachelor’s degree.
 In high school, Tiffany graduated with high honors and was active in clubs such as, Beta Club, National Society of High School Scholars and Key Club. She was the senior class secretary, and was active in Health Occupation Students of America, allowing her to graduate from high school as a certified nursing assistant. Tiffany was also involved with competitive cheerleading and weightlifting.
Winners of the scholarship are awarded a $2,500 annual stipend towards their undergraduate degrees for up to four years. Winners are selected based on their standardized testing scores, as well as their commendable academic performance and significant contributions to their schools and communities. Candidates must be recommended by their respective schools and are required to submit an essay outlining their personal characteristics, activities, plans and goals.
The Gerdau Scholarship program is designed to promote Gerdau’s commitment to education, one of the five pillars of their social responsibility program. The other pillars of this program include community support, health and wellness, history and culture, and affordable housing.
