Employees at the Gerdau mill in Midlothian pledge more than $62,000 to unites way

Press release

Employees at the Gerdau steel mill in Midlothian, Texas, are pledging more than $62,000 to the United Way of West Ellis County. The contribution is a combination of personal donations from Gerdau employees and a company match of the amount they raise.
“We are very proud of our employees’ engagement, support and dedication to this cause,” said Glen Carlisle, the vice president and general manager of the Gerdau mill in Midlothian. “It is our responsibility as community leaders to make a positive impact on our community, and our employees did that by making personal contributions.”
The Midlothian mill has been working with United Way for more than 15 years. To collect the donations, Gerdau employees pledge to donate the money through payroll deduction.
“The contributions made by Gerdau are extremely important to the UWWEC. Historically, they have run and continue to run the largest campaign of any of our contributors,” said Clint Almand, chairman of the UWWEC. “Without the generous donations made by the employees and corporate leadership of Gerdau, we would not be able to award $350,000 in grants to local non-profits.  We are grateful for our relationship with Gerdau and hope to continue to be able to affect change in the lives of so many in our community.”
Gerdau believes in sustainable development and that the growth of a company is directly related to its respect for the community and the environment. The company invests in the development of the communities surrounding its locations, supporting hundreds of social projects with the help of employees engaged in volunteer work and in partnership with community agents.
