Gerdau 304L stainless steel is chrome-nickel austenitic stainless steel, not capable of being hardened, non magnetic, 18-8 type. Presents good resistance to corrosion and resistance to oxidation up to 850 ºC. This type of steel has good cold forming ability, but its strain hardening is higher than in non-alloy steels, requiring greater forming efforts. The scale that appears in hot forming, heat treatment, or welding must be eliminated via pickling or machining. Its resistance to inter-crystalline corrosion is guaranteed up to 350 ºC. The machining process should be carried out with high speed steel or hard metal tools, under good refrigeration. In its soluble state it can present a slight magnetism, which goes up as cold deformation increases.
