HEALTH AND SAFETY

Gerdau believes that no emergency, product or outcome can justify the lack of safety of its people, whether employees or contractors.

All Gerdau business units have adopted the Safety Management System, a demanding set of practices with internationally acknowledged standards of excellence. In addition, the Company makes a continuous investment in protective materials and equipment, as well as in awareness-raising and training campaigns.

Gerdau also values the quality of life of its team members. In every country where the Company does business, it has benefits programs that meet the key needs of its employees and their families. These benefits include medical and dental care, group life insurance and private retirement plans.

Safety policy

For Gerdau, people, in all their integrity, are of greater value than any of the company's other aims or priorities. No production situation, no emergency, and no result can justify any risk to our people.

The company is responsible for providing the appropriate means and resources so that all activities can be carried out safely. It is the Company's responsibility and that of each individual in it to ensure that every effort is taken to guarantee human safety.

The Manager has overall responsibility for the safety of all those who work in his Area. The Workplace Safety Team should take preventive action, providing Managers with backup and technical support.

Each employee must take active responsibility for their own safety and that of their workmates. It is the duty of every individual to identify unsafe tasks and work for their resolution with persistence and determination, in conjunction with their supervisors.
